From 1 January 2012 PwC’s Academy is pleased to offer a full ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) qualification programme. This exciting ACCA training development in Latvia will happen in collaboration between PricewaterhouseCoopers SIA (PwC) and JohnMoffat SIA. JohnMoffat SIA has been running ACCA courses in Riga for over 13 years and has helped over 300 students to achieve high results and become ACCA qualified members. PwC has a huge network of training academies that already run ACCA courses in many countries in Central and Eastern Europe and achieve great exam pass rates. This collaboration will serve to improve further the quality of ACCA teaching and administration, as well as reinforcing the value of the ACCA qualification in Latvia.
ACCA is the leading international accountancy body that issues highly respected and valued international qualifications in business. The ACCA qualification covers all areas of business, from financial statements, management accounting, business taxation and law to auditing and business ethics. So candidates not only gain specialist knowledge in finance and accounting but also acquire valuable skills in organisational management and strategy.
Why study ACCA?
- It enables you to become a Chartered Certified Accountant, use the designatory letters ACCA, and work in any aspect of finance or management in any business.
- ACCA members and students know more about business than their colleagues, making them more likely to be promoted and receive higher salaries.
- Holding the ACCA qualification illustrates your quality over others in the business or finance profession, making you more likely to be selected for more challenging jobs.
- The fully comprehensive ACCA syllabus – you will learn to understand and master all the processes involved in how a business or financial organisation works.
- With exams twice a year students can work while studying.
- ACCA is not just for accountants. Members have the knowledge and skills to succeed in other areas such as business consulting, taxation, IT, strategic planning, and general management.
To qualify as an ACCA member you need to pass 14 exams (students holding relevant university degrees may be exempted from nine of them) and complete an Ethics Module, as well as having relevant practical work experience. Exams take place twice a year in June and December.
The ACCA syllabus consists of two levels, Fundamentals and Professional.
The Fundamentals level is divided into two modules, Knowledge and Skills. The Knowledge module introduces students to the core areas of financial and management accounting. This provides a platform for studying the other technical accountancy areas in greater detail in the Skills module. The Skills module contains six subjects comprehensively covering the main technical areas any accountant is expected to have mastered regardless of their future career aspirations. These subjects comprise law, performance management, taxation, financial reporting, auditing, and financial management.
The Professional level is also split into two modules, Essentials and Options, both set at an intellectual level equivalent to that expected of a student taking a Master’s degree. The focus of the syllabus at this level is to build on the technical skills already acquired, and to explore more advanced professional skills, techniques and values that are required and used by the expert accountant acting in a senior advisory or consultancy role. All students must complete the three papers in the Essentials module. The Options module contains four papers, which are directly supported by their equivalent in the Skills module at the Fundamentals level. These exams assess the more advanced and sophisticated techniques a professional needs in order to specialise in specific areas at work or to pursue an advisory or consultancy career. Students select two out of four Option papers and are advised to choose the options that relate to their chosen or anticipated field of work.
